West Hollywood, CA: Expanded Retail Sales Ban

Summary: An ordinance banning the retail sale of birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, fishes, arachnids, and hermit crabs.

Status: The city council unanimously approved the ordinance in August 2025. The ordinance should be considered for a final vote at the September 15th council meeting.

The IAPP does not directly get involved with legislative efforts, but IAPP members representing a number of organizations are involved in various advocacy, legislative, and policy efforts that promote positive welfare of parrots as well as shield them from harm.
