Relocation and Rescue

Foster Parrots has been involved in transferring 29 amazon parrots confiscated in Florida (smuggled as eggs) from RARE in Florida to SoCal Parrots, and efforts to locate a situation in Central America that could facilitate their release back into the wild where they belong.

In addition to this, Foster Parrots, Best Friends, Oasis and MAARS have been embroiled in the rescue of the parrots and cavies from the Mayaguez Zoo in Puerto Rico, which was finally officially shut down early this year after being closed down to the public since 2017

One Earth Conservation’s Parrot Conservation Corps is a year-long webinar series led by Rev. Dr. LoraKim Joyner and Dr. Sylvia M. de la Parra Martínez. The 2023 PCC is intended for Spanish-speaking people from Central and South America who have a real interest in knowing, studying, and understanding parrots. Current participants include 18 people from seven countries, including Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Argentina, Paraguay, and Brazil. The participants come from a variety of fields and backgrounds, such as wildlife veterinarians, biologists, engineers, and undergraduate and graduate biology students.
